Our Story
At the heart of Genius Kids Early Childhood Educational Center is the desire for collaboration between teachers, whanau and the community to support the learning and development of each child.

Our curriculum is based on Te Whāriki Early Childhood curriculum and inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach to childcare that puts children at the center of their learning in relationship-driven environments.

The aim of our teaching methods, creative spaces and compassionate teaching is to nurture each child’s innate competence, curiosity and imagination, enabling them to contribute to their own learning and wellbeing. This is done through many languages of expression and communication.

Our teachers carefully listen, observe, and document the work of each child, encouraging them to develop their thinking and learning. They also reflect on their own teaching, learning, and work by sharing ideas and observations within the instructorial team, whanau and with the tamariki themselves.

It is important to us that we instill in each child a sense of confidence, self-awareness and belief that that are unique and can do anything!

Infants Care & Education
“Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.”
-William Butler Yeats

Aroha and manaakitanga are at the centre of our infant care and education. It is a beautiful journey that develops trusting relationships with respect, creativity and care.

We understand and articulate the abilities and individual needs of each infant through our thoughtful, loving and caring relationships with them.

The Reggio Emilia Approach is introduced in these early stages of care; philosophies that develop a sense of self, learning and relationship within a social environment.

At Genius Kids Early Childhood Educational Center, infants acquire knowledge by exploring their environment as well as experimenting and interacting with sensible and thoughtful materials.

These mediums and materials include but are not limited to classical music, creative art, storytelling and drama - all of which are incorporated into our infant routine and rituals.

‘Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by;
Instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.’
– Loris Malaguzzi (1920-1994), Italian early childhood education specialist.

Our Philosophy

At Genius Kids Early Childhood Learning Center we provide the very best, high-quality care and education for children. As educators, we believe reciprocal, trustworthy and respectful relationships are the core values that will empower tamariki in their journey of learning in a diverse community.

Each child is capable, unique and competent. Whanaungatanga and partnership between children, teachers and parents are the heart of our teaching and learning practices. We aspire to offer a culture of creative spaces where every child, like pikopiko, unfolds their language of learning.

Te whariki curriculum underpins our pedagogical practices.

“Te Whāriki, our early childhood curriculum is embedded into everything we do and we uphold the curriculum’s vision “that children are competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society”

This philosophy is also guided by the Ministry of Early Childhood Regulations 2008.

Vision and values

“Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect.” – Loris Malaguzzi (1920-1994), Italian early childhood education specialist.

At Genius Kids Early Childhood Educational Center, tamariki are given open opportunities to explore, create, experience, adapt, imagine and innovate. We view the child as competent and capable researchers and learners. Culture of learning and teaching where every child, like pikopiko, unfolds their characteristics and dispositions in the learning environment where…

  • Children play and work to develop themselves as confident, socially competent and literate learners
  • Meaningful learning experiences and interactions between children and teachers foster curiosity, critical thinking and discovery about the wider world
  • There is visible pedagogical documentation
  • Every child is an artist; their creative visual artworks are valued
